  • I remember how stable System 7.6.1 felt, the new UI overhaul in Mac OS 8 which felt so modern, the rocky initial transition to Mac OS X (I ran 10.0 on an iBook and found it to be so unusable I switched back to Mac OS 9 and then went to Mac OS X again with 10.1) that was then resolved and became a solid and fantastic OS.
  • NEWS FLASH for MacBook Air users with 3 Beeps at startup!!! On a hunch, as I have noticed my MacBook Air has overheated in the past, I opened mine up to check the THERMAL PASTE. Made no sense that DRAM of any sort would fail after 15 months. When I got down to the logic board, I inspected the 8. MacBook Air Models A1237 and A1304.
My macbook started refusing to turn on and instead emits loud beeps with a black screen. I read around the internet and saw that this is a memory problem, and I should reinstall the memory to fix it.
I took the memory out and put it back in, but it keeps beeping (this is the memory that came with the machine, so I know it's not bad memory or something like that). After turning it on and off with the beeps 5-10 times, it turns back on like normal. I have taken the memory in and out multiple times now.
What can I do!?
Thanks.

1 tone repeating every 5 seconds: When you start your Mac, it will automatically run system diagnostics. If you hear this pattern of beeping, it means that the Mac could not find any RAM installed. Either your computer's memory was removed or something is interfering with the system checkup. My Feb-2011 MacBook Pro hangs with three beeps. I noted the first strange thing a few days ago. The MacBook was in standby (as always) but very hot (not usual). I thought some process must have stopped the mac from switching to stand by and kept the processor busy, so no.
